Blue Cheer was a psychedelic band that performed in the late 1960s and early 1970s and remained active until 2009. It played a very loud blues-rock style that bordered on heavy metal and it is considered to be the pioneer of that genre, as well as punk rock and grunge. The name “Blue Cheer” stems from a street brand of LSD that was created by LSD chemist and Grateful Dead soundman, Owsley Stanley.(Clear light was also stems from the same brand) Blue Cheer originally consisted of Dickie Peterson, Leigh Stevens, and Paul Whaley, although there were other band members at different times. In 1968, Blue Cheer released its first album—Vincebus Erputum—which contained the hit single, Summertime Blues. That single reached #14 on the Billboard 100 chart.
